Divorce: A Choice

Divorce is a very emotionally taxing time for most families. Most individuals that must experience this find it incredibly difficult to separate after having spent several years in a home together. However, divorce still takes place and affects every individual involved: not only the husband and wife, but also the children.

The statistics regarding marriage and divorce are quite astonishing. According to research done at the turn of the century, 43% of first marriages will end in divorce within the first fifteen years. Couples are most prone for separation within the first five years.

These numbers probably do not mean anything to the individual who has a family to worry about. The burden of paying bills, maintaining healthy relationships, and still trying to capture the American dream can be taxing on any individual.

Divorce is ultimately about choices – choices that every married individual must understand. You can choose to divorce or you can choose not to. Divorce and living your life in misery are not the only options, though. In making these life-altering decisions, one must be able to have a free and clear mind, in order to make sure that the decision is not influenced by external and perhaps unrelated factors.

Clearing the mind can be achieved through a variety of different methods, ranging from utter relaxation to meditation. Once this has occurred, it is imperative that you ask yourself questions about the life that you want. Try not to focus on the life that you have now because the emotional sentiment can cloud your perspective. This is a good exercise to do with a therapist.
